Located in the heart of the Seattle Greenlake neighborhood, the Clogston Residence and detached studio were designed in response to site conditions and program. The site response starts with skewing the floor plan to omit views of neighboring structures, maximize park views, and provide natural light. The space between the residence and studio creates a courtyard that is tucked away and safe for outdoor activities. The main space and entry were designed with angled volumetric ceiling planes that correspond to the skewed floor plan. The angled design scheme reappears at the staircase polycarbonate screen wall and the beams that bisect rooms. The owner’s suite includes a spa-like bathroom featuring skylights, large round soaking tub, and stained wood walls. The detached studio, wrapped in dark stained cedar shingles, floats above the foundation revealing the skewed plan. The Cedar shingles appear at the main entry to highlight the double height volume and large cantilever.
